Why IPSWICH Learner Drivers

Chose Ability Driving School

Paul Egan Ipswich

Paul Egan, Ipswich.

“I decided to change driving schools and chose Ability Driving School through a friend’s recommendation as I wasn’t learning enough with my previous driving instructor. They told me that Ian Mills was great and that they had learnt a lot in a short space of time.

I picked up driving quite quickly and soon became comfortable. Ian had very good teaching methods and I gained a lot of driving experience quickly through Ian letting me drive and improving as I went along.

I will be recommending Ability Driving School to others as I was taught everything I needed to learn and in a good way by driving and not just being told.”

Hannah Smith Ipswich.

Hannah Smith, Ipswich.

“I chose Ability Driving School as I was looking for a well-known and well-priced company with good reviews. I also wanted a friendly driving instructor. Ability Driving School had this, and it was shown in their amazing customer reviews!!

Learning to drive with driving instructor Mark Banyard was 100 times better than I had expected. I thought learning would be a long and hard process, but in reality, it was enjoyable, and the time flew by!

Mark had incredible teaching methods. He was very calm in how he wanted me to drive and helped me progress quickly. He structured the lessons around me and my learning style.

Shahan Miah Ipswich.

Shahan Miah, Ipswich.

“The most important criteria for me when choosing a driving school was needing someone who could encourage me and teach me how to drive in the simplest way. Another factor was recommendations on various sites, but when I got to know my Driving Instructor Mark Banyard, who was the most perfect instructor I could have had, I didn’t care about anything else.

Marks teaching methods were very, very helpful. He was friendly and understanding.

I would recommend Ability Driving School because I don’t think anyone else could teach like Mark, there’s nothing they could have improved on, just keep doing what you do.”

You Ask – We Answer

Will i Drive On My 1st lesson?

Yes, you will definitely be driving on your first lesson.

If you are new to driving, your Instructor will drive you to a suitable location to get you started. It’s vital that your first few lessons are conducted in an area that will ensure your success and build your confidence.

Your Instructor will take a few minutes to record your licence details, test your eyesight and explain how to adjust your seat, head restraint and make sure you are comfortable.

He/she will then explain the controls that you will need to operate during your first lesson.

You will then be given a briefing on the move off and stop procedure with a short discussion to ensure you understand what is required. Your Instructor will then give you full talk through and guide you through your practical driving session. You will be able to learn at your own pace and your lesson will progress as and when you feel ready.

All your lessons will be structured using our unique ALS (Accelerated Learning System) to ensure you receive the maximum value for your money. Your early lessons will be in quiet areas, mainly on housing estates so you can build your confidence.

Full details on our unique Accelerated Learning System can be accessed by watching the main video on this page titled ‘Save Your Time and Money’.

Do You Offer A Block Booking Discount?

Yes, we do.

We suggest that if possible, you purchase a block of ten hours to benefit from the £20 discount. If for any reason you are not delighted with your instructor and your tuition, I will make a refund and any unused lessons purchased will also be refunded.

Full lesson pricing details can be found by clicking the ‘Lesson Prices’ button just above the four contact methods.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?

Yes, we do.

In fact, we offer an industry leading 9 Star Guarantee and I will offer you a refund on EVERY lesson you take unless you are delighted with both the tuition and service you receive.

You can access full details of the 9 Start Guarantee by clicking the ‘Learn More’ Button at the top of this page.

How much are your lessons?

Please click the Yellow ‘Lesson Prices’ Button just above the four ways you can make contact for full lesson pricing details.

Do you offer intensive or crash courses?

Please click the ‘Are we the right school for you’ Button for a full explanation of the services we offer.

Do you offer lessons in an Automatic vehicle?

No.

Unfortunately, at this present time we have no Automatic Instructors.

How many lessons a week do you recommend?

We find that taking a 2-hour lesson every week, proves to be the most successful strategy for most students. Two-hour lessons would be far more beneficial to you. You will learn far more for your money and you will also be test ready in half the time. You will have a decent amount of condensed learning in one go with time to digest and be focused for your next lesson. Sometimes students think that they would be unable to concentrate for a period of two hours, but this is why we would ‘chunk’ your lessons and break up the two hour slot to cover several topics, just as they do in the school curriculum to keep the learning fresh and focused.

Taking a regular weekly lesson has proven success as it provides continuity, the retention of knowledge and it will reduce your learning period. We will aim to offer you a regular lesson slot that you can book in advance and keep from the time you commence your lessons until you pass your test.

You will also be able to book more than one lesson slot per week should you wish to reduce your learning period and be test ready sooner. (Subject to instructor availability)

Do You Offer Pay As You Go?

Yes, we do, however your lessons do have to be pre-paid 48 hours in advance. We do not accept cash on the day of your lessons, but you are most welcome to pay each week as you go using your preferred method of payment.

Do you offer lessons at weekends or just during the week?

Yes, we do offer lessons on Saturdays but not on Sundays unfortunately.

Saturday lessons are always in high demand and will be subject to availability.

How many lessons do you think I will need?

It’s almost impossible to know until you begin your tuition.

The DVSA suggest that the average is around 46 hours, but we find that most of our students are test ready much sooner. It really does depend on the individual, but our recommendation is to book ten hours of lessons and once completed, you will have a much better idea of the number of lessons you will need.

Do you come to me or do I have to come to you?

We will always pick you up at your preferred location. That could be from College, your home, work or anywhere else you choose. We will also drop you off at your preferred location.

Do you have female instructors?

Unfortunately, we don’t have any female instructors at the moment.

How long is the waiting list?

It really depends on when you would be available to take your lessons.

If you would like to contact us by using one of the four methods towards the top of this website with the days and times you are available. Sam, who is our customer services admin will check and get back to you ASAP.

How come you are more expensive than others?

That is a very good question.

Most people wrongly assume that all driving instructors are the same!

I have produced several videos on this website to help you make the correct decision, avoid the costly mistakes and to avoid being one of the 30% of local learners that feel the need to change their driving instructor before test day.

Please check out the main video on this page ‘How To Choose Your Driving Instructor’. You will be glad that you did!

Do you teach people with learning difficulties?

Yes, we do but it will depend on the circumstances.

Our instructors do not pretend to be experts, or do they possess special training for certain disabilities. The best advice I can give is to contact our customer services and discuss your requirements, so they can attempt to match a suitable instructor.

Do you offer one-hour lessons?

Just to be clear and give you a balanced view, there is nothing wrong with 1-hour lessons, we just feel that they offer less value for your money as they prolong the learning period substantially. Another of the drawbacks is having to take time from your lesson to drive to a suitable location that is relevant to cover the topic and then having to drive back again.

We leave it up to your Driving Instructors discretion and the conversation you have with them.

What is your 1st time pass rate?

We are very proud of our 1st time pass rate and our instructors deserve a lot of credit for their hard work. It’s impossible to give the exact % as we have tests almost every week and it will continually change.

Checking out the main video on this page ‘How To Choose Your Instructor’ will help you make the correct decision and avoid the costly mistakes that force over 30% of all local learners to change their instructor before reaching test day.

As mentioned in our opening paragraph we are particularly proud of our first time pass rate which is considerably above the national average. What is our secret? We have a proven system that ensures that our driving instructors follow our best practice guidelines & procedures.

Our structured system will feature a complete plan of action broken down for you so you can see where you are up to with regard to your progress within the driving school syllabus & what you need to do to get to the level where you are ready to take your test.

Our Instructors will complete an ALS sheet that will detail each step of your progress. It will demonstrate the areas that you might need more practice whilst also showing the things you are particularly strong with.

We do encourage practice with family & friends provided it is used in a way that will assist & improve your driving abilities ready for your next lessons. Ideally you would practice the areas that have been highlighted for you on your report card so to reduce the length of time you need to cover them in your actual lessons.

For example if you are struggling with your bay park manoeuvre then it would make sense to go somewhere quiet & practice as often as you can whilst out with friends & family. Once you can demonstrate you are able to carry out the procedure confidently & error free then your instructor will then move you on to the next step of the syllabus.

However if your instructor thinks you need more practice you will continue where you left off until you have mastered it. This example demonstrates the importance of using your practice time wisely.

You should ensure that you complete your theory examination as quickly as possible. This will benefit you as it gives you a better understanding of the practical side. It will also allow for your instructor to book you in for your test as soon as you are ready without any unnecessary delays.
